Dental Surgery Hertfordshire

A veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured material which is made to fit precisely over the visible surface of a front tooth to make it look better.

They are ideal for discoloured or unsightly teeth to improve the appearance. They help to close the gap between front teeth and can protect the teeth from acid in food and drink. Porcelain veneers are made by the dental technician after taking an impression of your tooth.

Bonding is an alternative to using veneers and is performed using a white filling that is shaped and hardened using a similar procedure to standard fillings. This can work well if the tooth can support the filling but they tend to break down and discolour sooner, making veneers more cost effective. We will advise you of the best option for you after examination.

Believe it or not, people have been bleaching their teeth for more than one hundred years. The results, however, have not previously met people high expectations. With today's technology, teeth whitening has become an excellent and effective way to remove discolouration and stains on the teeth. All tooth whitening procedures use hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to bleach out stains on your tooth enamel.

Whitening techniques will vary with every individual depending on:

  1. The type of stain on our teeth
  2. Where the stain is located
  3. The amount of time the whitening gel is used
  4. The peroxide concentrate in the whitening gel
  5. The intensity of the light activating the whitening gel.

Tooth Implants can be used to replace missing teeth and maybe suitable for people who cannot use removable dentures. They are titanium rods which are surgically placed into the jawbone and used as anchors for bridges or crowns. Implants improve the appearance and function of your dentition. However, they are not suitable for everyone and we will advice you of the procedures associated with implants.

If you want a more permanent solution to dentures that improves your 'chew ability' and helps you avoid the 'sunken face' look often associated with missing teeth, implants could be for you.
Before and After
It generally takes about six months for the surgical implant to heal before the final installation of the artificial tooth or teeth can be finished.

Due to the amount of surgery involved this procedure is expensive but this is the closest you will come to re growing your natural teeth. They are far superior to removable dentures and virtually undetectable. They will save you time and have long term health benefits compared with other treatments on offer (90% of modern implants last a minimum of 15 years). If you would like a quote or more information about the procedure please give us a call.

Choose from either white or silver fillings. White fillings bond better and can be used to reshape or rebuild broken or worn teeth, although they are not always successful if the filling is very large. If this is the case then crowns or inlays can be used (which are a natural colour), but this may require more of the tooth to be removed and are consequently more expensive. Veneers can also be an alternative to fillings on the front teeth.

New materials are now available which have properties similar to those of amalgam (silver fillings), so the life expectancy of a white filling depends on where it is in your mouth and how heavy your bite is. We will be able to advise you on the best options for you.

Before and After The before and after shows how we replaced old and blackened silver fillings with new, white fillings. These advanced materials make your mouth look and feel natural and unscarred

As well as providing dental care, simply teeth also offers treatments in facial rejuvination. Modern, stressfull and hectic lifestyles can often take its toll on the body - the face in particular. Facial rejuvination involves a range of treatments tailored to suit the needs of each individual patient. Treatments can help combat the aging process and produce a more youthful, energised appearance.

Wrinkle Correction

Hyperactivity of the facial expression muscles can result in the development of deep lines in the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. Injecting botulinum toxin (botox) into the affected area temporarily paralyses the underlying muscles responsible for wrinkling, giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles become smoother or disappear all together.

Lip Enhancement

Over time the lips can lose shape, collapse and become thin due to changes in the tissues caused by aging and habits like smoking. Some individuals may also notice the formation of lines around the lips and mouth too. This can lead to an aged appearance and can even ruin what once was a beautiful smile. With the use of dermal fillers, we can re-contour the lips and replace the volume lost. The result - long lasting sumptuous lips that will have you laughing and smiling with confidence.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are materials that help reduce and even eliminate deep wrinkles, lines and folds in the skin of the face. They are particularly useful in treating deep lines and facial areas where botox may not be suitable. They help to restore the volume that has been lost as a result of ageing and lifestyle eg. smoking, sun damage and poor diet. The effects of dermal fillers can be seen immediately after treatment. Dermal filler treatments can be complemented by botox to dramatically rejuvinate the face, whilst still maintaining a healthy, natural appearance.

Facial Peel

Over time lifestyle factors such as sun exposure can cause skin to become dull, patchy and marked making individuals look older and fatigued. Facial peels use a chemical solution to smooth and improve the texture and appearance of the skin by removing its damaged outer layers. Facial peels are excellent for those with facial blemishes, fine wrinkles, acne scarring and eneven skin pigmentation. This treatment is a simple and fantastic way to peel back the years and leave you with soft, glowing, healthy skin.

Dentures can be partial or full. Partial dentures can replace a few missing teeth. Dentures can be fitted straight after teeth have been taken out so that no-one knows you have had teeth removed.

A partial denture is the easiest way of replacing missing teeth, but some people find this uncomfortable and eventually decide to have a bridge or implant made. A partial denture is a plate with false teeth attached to it. The plate is made of either plastic, or metal and plastic, usually with clips to keep it in place. Sometimes the retaining clips can be visible when you smile or open your mouth, but this depends on the position of the false teeth and clips.

We will be able to advice you on the range and suitability of the different types of plastic teeth available. Dentures which have teeth designed to give a more 'natural' appearance are available privately.

The principal at the practice, Dr S Sihra, has a special interest in challenging Root canal treatments, and all the practices have had many referrals in the past from other dentists for second opinions, and for difficult treatments. Root canals are often perceived to be traumatic, and painful, but rest assured times have moved on, and they are now very quick, predictable and after the anaesthetic, pain free. We use the latest in techniques and equipment at the practice, and are fully equipped with digital imaging software to help diagnose all types of dental disease.
